Castle at Donner

This large and open contemporary mountain house in the small Serene Lakes community near Donner Summit is within a 10-minute drive of five ski areas: Royal Gorge, Soda Springs, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch and Sugar Bowl. Donner Summit is also home to some of the deepest snowpack in the US! This is a great retreat for a large family or multiple smaller families, with the comforts of radiant floor heat, a gas fireplace and an on-demand water heater. The house has lots of space to get gather as a group, a well-equipped kitchen with a large dining table for group meals, and a heated two-car garage and parking for two more cars in the driveway (a plowing service maintains garage access during the winter).  The many books and games offer plenty of fun when it’s time to stay indoors, but the surrounding outdoors is the major draw. You can take a wonderful 45-minute walk around Serene Lakes, snowshoe and cross-country ski right out the front door on dozens of nearby trails, or travel less than a mile to Royal Gorge, which bills itself as the largest cross-country ski area in the US. In summer, enjoy the lakes a block away, for swimming, boating, or boarding; you can use our many water toys (canoe, 2 kayaks, two paddle boards, and a big "inner tube") which are equipped for rolling from the garage to the local access. The ground floor includes the garage, entry, a half-bath, and a den/rumpus room with two queen sofa/sleeper beds, a foosball table, and laundry.  The second floor is the main open living level, with living, dining, kitchen areas. The third floor opens with a TV/reading lounge surrounded by four large bedrooms and a large bath with two sinks, a tub-shower, and a separate walk-in shower. Come enjoy this wonderful gathering spot!
