This is your positively private Costa Rican escape. Villa Doughty is a 4,400 square foot vacation home surrounded by almost 2 acres of beautiful gardens with a variety of tropical fruit trees. When you stay here, you’ll have unbelievable views of the Central Valley, seen not only from the gardens, but also from the master bedroom balcony and from the spacious 40 foot outdoor covered terrace connected to the living/dining room. Imagine sitting on the terrace morning, noon, or night – enjoying a drink, getting lost in a book, or simply staring at the amazing scenery. You’ll also get to see some of the beautiful wildlife in the area, including toucans, flocks of green parrots, and many varieties of butterflies and hummingbirds. This luxurious Atenas villa is a two-story home filled with all kinds of “extras” that will make your vacation unforgettable. Like the sparkling pool with an outdoor shower. Or the master suite’s king-size bed with a walk-out balcony. Or the “Digital” sauna steam room. Or the gourmet kitchen. You’ll love the kitchen, with its granite counter tops, hardwood cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. Rental Rates are in U.S. Dollars and we do have a 5 night minimum stay.
Our Villa comfortably accommodates up to 8 Adults plus 2 children in 4 large bedrooms.
We also have available 2 Twin-size Electric E-Z beds and will reserve upon request.
A month before your arrival date you will receive a payment reminder for the remaining 50% payment that will be due 15 days before your arrival. If Booking is within 30 days of your Arrival, the full amount will be due.

Our stay was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! It was great to have the space to roam and not step on each others feet, you could find a corner and just get lost in the surroundings, in bird song or watching or be by the pool. We cooked as an entire family (all 10 of us) and never once did the kitchen seem like it was closing in on us. The proximity to the highway and the town was great and very convenient for all our daily outings. The central location of the house helped us plan our “tours” around Costa Rica so much better. Piet & Yvonne are truly great, warm & inviting and so accommodating. And the Doughty’s also helped put the cherry on top of our wonderful family vacation. Top Notch recommendations all around!
What a great time we had. The house was everything that we expected. We had a nice time and did lots of things but my favorite thing to do was to sit out on the covered terrace and just look around at the beauty of it all. It truly is beautiful. The house had everything that we needed plus so much more. The owners are so sweet and thoughtful. They called to check on us, they had a welcome card with a bottle of wine and some munchies for us when we arrived after such a long day of travel. Dianne and Steve had a book of everything from fun things to do to every kind of info that you needed in town. We had no problem finding any place we went. And the best part was the Property managers Piet and Yvonne they are one of a kind. They were so helpful and they were there to help or answer any questions we had. We feel like we made friends with them. Piet has a band that plays once a month and we got to go to a local bar and grill to watch them. So entertaining and fun. It is a must if he is playing while you are there. And Yvonne was always there to be so helpful to us. She brought the best breakfast to us the next morning after we arrived. I highly recommend this property to anyone. We had such a great time that we bought a house and are moving there in the next four months. Atenas is the place to be!
Our family group of six spent the better part of a week at Villa Doughty early in the New Year. On arrival in Atenas, we were warmly greeted by Yvonne, who led us to the Villa and showed us around. The house, the grounds, flora and fauna, butterflies, hummingbirds, etc.. and the views in every direction are quite spectacular. We spent much time enjoying the pool, and found good restaurants close by after enjoying evening cocktails on the large balcony. The house is superbly equipped with every appliance and amenity imaginable . There isn’t a single thing to find fault with – I hope that we have the opportunity to return some day. Out thanks to the Doughtys and the Asmas for helping to make our vacation a memorable one.
This house is wonderful, 4 beautiful bedrooms, Master with its own bathroom, super clean! The kitchen is stunning and it has everything you will need to prepare meals! We have no complaints, everything was in working order! We will recommend this house to anyone that is looking to stay in the Atenas Area!
We had an amazing experience at Villa Doughty. We were three friends traveling together and of course this huge house was too big for the three of us, we could have been ten people. But the charm, the character, the top notch equipment provided in the villa was truly an asset. We had grocery in order to cook our own meals and have dinner on the veranda with spectacular views of Volcano Pos and the mountains surrounding. You will never be bothered by neighbors, it seems like you’re all alone in Costa Rica. It’s a good idea to have a car since the village is a couple of km/miles away. Quite frankly, we didn’t want to leave this place. Even the great pictures dont reflect the quality of installations. I’ve been traveling all over the world and this villa is certainly one of the greatest place I’ve seen. And the hosts will do anything in their power to make your stay a memorable one. Thanks folks, I will spread the word around!
Our group of ten– 6 adults and 4 children had a wonderful time at Villa Doughty! Dianne, the owner, was very helpful from the very start of planning our family vacation. The villa was spacious, comfortable and beautiful. I enjoyed going out on the patio and the butterflies were a delight to see. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Our children had fun in the pool. The kitchen was spacious and was stocked with the utensils we needed to cook our meals. The property management team was very friendly, nice, helpful and responded to our questions about places to visit, etc. They helped us with our car rental, and gave us useful and helpful tips. We hired Marian from that team to take us on a private tour of the volcano and the La Paz Waterfalls. She was excellent! It was a short car ride to town where we were able to go the grocery store, bank, park (across the church), souvenir shop, and the wonderful Pops–ice cream shop. We enjoyed going to the Farmer’s Market on the Friday that we were there. We had a great time in Costa Rica, and having a Lovely home like Villa Doughty made the stay even more wonderful! I can write more but you have to experience this home for yourself. I highly recommend the villa of Dianne and Steve Doughty. Pura Vida!
My husband and children stayed at the villa for 5 days. The villa is very spacious and comfortable. We had a wonderful time. The property is amazingly beautiful. We enjoyed and relaxed at the pool. The only issue we had was with the water. The property managers had to supply the water from the well in the property. Piet and Yvonne are very helpful. I would definitely recommend this villa for vacation.
This is a truly outstanding home, very spacious, with 4 very large bedrooms. The entire house is tastefully decorated with good quality art and accent pieces. The furniture is high end, the beds are the ultimate in comfort. The patio is a delight, especially in early evening when you get the sunset glow. But the best of the best is the kitchen; it is spacious like all of the house, very well laid out and extremely well equipped with good quality pots and pans. Nothing has been left out so preparing meals is a sheer delight. There is no need to go out to eat. We found this to be the perfect vacation accommodation. It is quiet, peaceful, very clean, very well equipped and maintained, absolutely everything you could wish for in a holiday getaway. Atenas is also a perfect base for day trips to outstanding attractions in central Costa Rica. We recommend this property very highly. It offers outstanding value for your visit to Costa Rica.
If you enjoy nature, birds and butterflies, you will love Villa Doughty. The whole house opens up to expose all that nature has to show. It has a fully equipped kitchen perfect for entertaining guest. Birds and butterflies start arriving around 4:30 am as the sun rises and throughout the day. House and pool are very private with breathtaking mountain views. The majestic Guanacaste trees and fruit tress just makes this beautiful property that much more organic. Marian, the house manager is just a phone call away if you need her. We would definitely stay again!
