Rock Haul is available for rent year round for you to enjoy the many activities available at beautiful Deep Creek Lake - boating, swimming, fishing, skiing (downhill and cross country), hiking, horseback riding, or just relaxing. These properties are near to Maryland's premier State parks - Deep Creek Lake, Swallow Falls, Harrington Manor, New Germany, and the beautiful and rugged Savage River State Forest. Wisp Ski Resort and the Outdoor Adventure Center with its man made whitewater course is within 15 -20 min. Deep Creek has become the State's finest four-season resort area, as many people are discovering.

Rock Haul was the perfect place for our family to come together to share an early celebration of Christmas. Six bedrooms and three baths were ideal for our situation. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. No one was concerned about being the last one to shower because there was always plenty of hot water. We awoke Saturday morning to an ice covered world. No one cared. In fact, we all enjoyed having breakfast while admiring the beauty of the trees and speculating on whether or not the ice fishermen on the lake really knew what they were doing. A wide variety of board games and DVD's, not to mention cable TV gave all of us entertainment options.
Loved this place for our group of two couples, one mother with a baby, and a grandmother with three school age grandchildren. The ground floor apartment with two bedrooms, bath, and family room provided separate sound-proof quarters for the grandmother and school age kids, and the adults and baby were undisturbed on the top floor. There is direct access to the dock, where the kids had a great time playing (with adult supervision). The kitchen is big and well furnished, and the fire pit area was a hit. It's reasonably close to the beach at Deep Creek state park. There aren't other activities for kids close by. For boaters, it would be ideal.
The Joyce home at Rock Hall met the needs of my family for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. The house is well maintained and comfortable. John Joyce is very easy to deal with. We used the MD State Park pass to visit Swallow Falls and Deep Creek Lake State Parks. I launched our boat at Deep Creek Lake SP, which is a short ride from the house. The boat dock at the house is convenient and equipped with a ladder for swimming in the lake. The cove area is great for kayaking as well. We golfed at nearby Fantasy Valley at WISP, checked out the man-made whitewater course at the top of the mountain, attended the Garrett County Fair which happened to be that week. And of course we spent much time exploring the lake. An enjoyable time, enhanced by the comfortable home.
Our family of 9 stayed here in May of 2016. We found it clean and well-maintained. The weather was chillier than we hoped as there were light snow showers on 2 different days. There was plenty of seating around the dining room table for all of us. In fact, we didn't understand why there were so many dining room type chairs throughout the house to the point that it felt crowded. The arrangement of the living room was not conducive for conversations with the whole family but for the week we rearranged the furniture to suit our needs. We really enjoyed driving to Swallow Falls State Park and hiking the trails to see several different waterfalls. If you love ice cream, be sure to visit either Lakeside Creamery for quality hard serve or Saffitickers south of Oakland on Garrett Highway for inexpensive soft serve treats.
The Rock Haul home was awesome! It was a great location with a beautiful view of the lake. Great for watching sunrises. The house was fully equipped with everything you needed: kitchen appliances, plenty of pots and pans, wifi, cable & dvds player, games, a balcony with furniture, and a fire pit. Overall, my family had a great time and we'd love to stay here again!
