Owner websiteThis beautiful Spanish colonial was architecturally designed and built for a Chiquita banana family in approx 1980. It has been updated and renovated over the years, it is in excellent condition and has a very warm, friendly feeling. Everyone says "it is so good to be home!". It is tastefully and eclectically decorated with items from all over the world. We are known for our outstanding breakfasts, and we cater to the needs of our guests.
The Cariari Bed & Breakfast is a charming abode that captures the essence of Costa Rican warmth. Greeting us with friendly faces, the staff left a lasting impression, especially Ms. Miriam, whose attentiveness stood out. Mornings were particularly delightful, as we savored our breakfast with views of a garden teeming with lizards and birds. This spectacle was beautifully complemented by the B&B's artistic interior, filled with enchanting artifacts. Strategically located, the property boasts proximity to the airport and an array of delightful restaurants, ensuring convenience at its best. An added feather to its cap is the safety it offers, allowing guests to unwind without a care. Furthermore, for those looking to explore further, the option to rent a car directly through the B&B is a boon. However, like all adventures, ours had its hiccup. The absence of an A/C made for a slightly uncomfortable ambiance. Moreover, a slight glitch with our reservation on the first night did cause a brief moment of anxiety. Thankfully, the efficient staff had the issue sorted and our room prepared in just 15 minutes.
A beautifully restored older house with a delightful elder woman host. Nice yard next to a river you can hear but not see. Nice relaxing background white noise. Covered rooftop patio which was a great place to work or relax. Only three great rooms, all en suite. Close walk to a variety of good restaurants and near enough to the airport it is just a $10 Uber ride at 5am. Interesting wild life in back yard. See pictures.
We have traveled the world and this is one of our favorite B and Bs. It’s extremely close to the international airport- it’s a five bedroom B&B in quite a large house. The owner will become your best friend. Breakfasts are delicious and the conversations always interesting. We enjoyed it so much. We are staying there again for tonight. On our way back to the US.
I found Cariari B&B online as a stop to the city from my trips to go see friends and family. I continue to be impressed by the overall experience, from the hospitality to the quality of food to the overall attentiveness to detail. Laurie and Miriam are wholeheartedly dedicated to making their guests feel comfortable, like a family member. Breakfast are satisfying and delicious from eggs, fruit, tea/coffee and breads. Laurie is a great knowledgeable resource for any plans you might have and can arrange for transportation too. I prefer to stay here over other options in the area because it is more of a home feel. And pets are welcomed too :)!
Our travel agent recommended we have a "soft landing" in CR, before we headed to the Nicoyan Penninsula.... and it couldn't have been a better tip. Cariari B&B, Laurie Blizzard, and her side kick Miriam were so lovely accommodating, personable and could anticipate our needs ??. Laurie is a most intriguing, funny, and lovely character!! Being from Massachusetts in the US, was a great tie to Laurie....I felt right at home. She knows San Jose so well after moving here 20 yrs ago. Feel in love with the country and people.... how can't you!! Beds are comfy!! Breakfasts are filling and fresh!!!!
$5 Uber to downtown a great advantage. 20 minutes from the airport. Shuttle picked us up and we were welcomed by proprietor Laurie. Miriam is the house "maid" and helped with our bags, making coffee waiting for us outside our door each morning, and the best breakfasts to get us on our way sight seeing. Rooms clean and safe. Running river behind the property was romantic. It's the only place I would stay when visiting CR. Thank you Laurie and Miriam!!
Instead of staying in a hotel, make your stay in San Jose (Cariari) an experience you'll treasure. Yes, I mean that! Staying with hostess Laurie is a true treat. The large beautiful house has a handful of rooms and there is a large rooftop patio.
Nothing was too much trouble for Laurie - she made us feel so welcome for our first night in Costa Rica, a home from home. Our room was very comfortable, and Laurie gave us a lift to a local restaurant and a bank to exchange currency. She then let us leave our suitcases for several days while we took a trip to the Osa peninsula.
