Alfred's Cabin ("Casita" using traditional Spanish interpretation) is as original and authentic as a historic casita can be. The low doorways and windows, so indicative of the 1700's Spanish architecture, attest to the short stature of the residents during that era.
It is so named "Alfred's Cabin" in honor of the former owner, Alfred Hobbs, a Taos Icon, archeologist and early member of the "New Buffalo" Taos Commune in the early 60's.
Alfred's Cabin dates back to the earliest Taos settlement in the 1700's and was the miller's house on the Rio Fernando de Taos (Fernando river of Taos). This original adobe, is intact with a traditional wood-burning kiva fireplace which was the only source of heat for this charming 700 square foot residence with 1 bedroom, bath, living area and kitchen . Attached to the main house via 3 foot thick adobe walls, there is no exchange of sound between the two homes. For added privacy, the cabin has its' own separate entry gate and parking. When rented with the house, the back kitchen entry affords easy access between the two residences.
Updated with modern kitchen and bathroom, Alfred's Cabin comes equipped with flat screen TV and wireless internet. In addition, is the famous tree trunk bedroom shelving hand carved by Alfred himself. It is a true work of art and labor of love contributed by this colorful and well loved former Taos resident.
An added draw to Alfred's is the location, which is 1.5 miles from the Taos Plaza off Kit Carson Road. The ability to access the "local" roads to easily get around town is a welcome bonus as it provides easy access to the major roadways leading to the several ski areas (Taos Ski Valley, Sipapu, Angel Fire and Red River). Natural landmarks, e.g., the Gorge Bridge, the Rio Grande River and the Taos Pueblo are an easy shot from this central location.

For reservations made more than 30 days from arrival, 50% deposit is to be paid by check due within 7 days of booking. Balance can be paid by check or Master Card/Visa and is due 30 days before arrival (60 days Xmas/NY's, Spring Break and reservations of 14 or more nights). Reservations made within 30 days of arrival will be charged to a Visa or Mastercard. If check is late, deposit will automatically be run on Visa or Mastercard 8 days after the booking date including a 5% service charge. |
