Description

We are situated in the heart of our small village 8 km from Pons, in the Charente Maritime on the west coast of France. There are several ‘vignerons’ (wine growers) in the village who still produce wine for the major cognac houses. There is also a small distillery producing ‘eau de vie’ for one of the leading cognac houses.
In summer our village nestles amongst the vineyards and fields of sunflowers.
Our gîtes are fully equipped, insulated and with electric radiators to ensure your comfort. They have a fully equipped kitchen, a flat-screen TV, satellite box and DVD player. The gîtes are suitable for young children having socket covers, a child safety lock on the kitchen cupboard under the sink, non-slip shower trays, stair gates, a night light motion detector on the landing and lots of other equipment is available to borrow.
Our beds have foam mattresses, anti-allergy duvets and pillows.
You will have access to all facilities on the premises. These include a laundry room, a library with a DVD collection and books (French and English), board games and tourist information. Indoor games room with table football, table tennis and garden games.
In the garden there is a 50m2 fully secured toddlers (under 5s) play hangar which has a small play house, a swing, a slide, table and chairs & sand box etc . Elsewhere there is a 3.5m trampoline, a sturdy swing and slide combination, terrain de boules.
We have a fully secured heated outdoor salt-water pool (11m x 5m) surrounded by a large terrace, there is also a large covered area and WC.
Free secure private parking is available on site.
Free WiFi is available throughout the property and gardens.
Pets are not allowed since some of our guests may have allegies.
Smoking is prohibited not only in the buildings but also anywhere on the grounds.
We are 20 minutes from the Roman town of Saintes and the town of Cognac. 40 minutes to the west lies the sandy beaches of the Gironde Estuary and 45 - 50 minutes to the beaches of the Cote Sauvage, the Atlantic coast.
The A10 motorway is 10 minutes away. Bordeaux airport in 1h 15 to the south and La Rochelle airport is 1h to the north.
Description of our gîtes:
Chèvrefeuille  (sleeps a maximum of 8 people, excluding travel cots)
This is one of our three bedroom, 2 bathroom Gîtes on two floors, able to comfortably sleep 8 people. To the rear is a private garden and independent parking. This Gîte is within a renovated barn. It has exposed beams in the main bedroom and some low ceiling heights, particularly in the family bathroom. It has the charm of an old Charentais country cottage whilst, like the Tardis, being deceptively large.
Ground floor:
The front wall is dominated by a full height double-glazed door and window unit giving the room a light and airy feel.
The main living space (37m²) includes a fully fitted and well equipped kitchen. The lounge, with its comfortable sofa, armchairs and bean bags will suit all the family. Should the sun not be shining then you can adjourn to the dining area and enjoy a convivial family meal around the dining table.
Bedroom 3 (9m²) is on the ground floor and has a double bed, wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The window has an electric external roller shutter effectively providing a blackout in the room.
An open tread, fully balustraded staircase leads from the living space to the first floor.

The ensuite master bedroom (22m²) has a low level window across the whole of the front wall and a large velux to the rear. As a result it is a lovely large and airy room with exposed timber beams.
It has a king size bed along with plenty of storage space in the wardrobe and 3 chests of drawers together with a sitting area to allow you to read quietly or simply sit and reflect. The ensuite bathroom has a shower, toilet, wash-hand basin and vanity unit.
Bedroom 2 (19m²) is a large room and can be configured to include a double bed or four single beds (80x190 or 80x200) to suit your needs. There is also plenty of storage space in the room as well as the adjacent landing for all the occupants.
Family bathroom (7m²) this bathroom has low headroom but plenty of space for the shower, toilet, wash-hand basin and vanity unit.
The private garden is to the rear of the Gîte and is accessed through French doors. It has a dining table and chairs together with sun loungers, deck chairs and a BBQ. This Gîte has a private parking area adjacent to the garden.

There are windows and doors in all three of the external walls allowing plenty of light to illuminate the room. There is also a renovated stone wall in bedroom 2. This Gîte has the wow factor.
Ground floor:

Facts About Destination :Pons is a historical medieval town which sits on one of the famous Chemins de St Jacques de Compostelle . The old Donjon (Keep) and castle (now town hall) remain the focal point of the town. On the outskirts is the Hôpital des Pélérins (Pilgrims Hospital) which is a UNESCO Heritage site. It was built to aid and give succor to the pilgrims en route to Compostelle
Area Information :There is plenty to do and see in the region. The west coast and its beaches are 40 minutes away. La Rochelle and Bordeaux are approximately 1 hour drive away. Closer to home is the medieval town of Pons, the Roman town of Saintes and the town of Cognac with its world famous cognac houses. There are historic Châteaux to visit, a children's theme park (Château des Enigmes) just 10 mins away, the Flow Velo that follows the river Charente and provides a safe cycle path for all the family. There are endless other attractions to keep the whole family occupied, however long your holiday is.
Why visit :Well, on average, the Charente Maritime has over 2,700 hours of sunshine per year and is the second sunniest region in France; London has only 1450 hour per year. In the summer it is common for the temperature to exceed 30 ° C.
How to reach :If you come from the north, you can take exit 35 off the A10 motorway near Saintes and you are 25 minutes away from us. Exit 35 is a bit cheaper and a bit faster than exit 36. On the other hand, you can continue to exit 36 (Pons) where you will pass the Leclerc supermarket, if you want to make purchases before arriving at our place. From the south, leave the motorway at exit 36 (Pons) and you are only 10 minutes away from us. You will pass the Leclerc supermarket, for your purchases if you need them. Once in our village, you're almost there - we're on the village's main road, about 70 metres from the town hall and on the same side of the street. The journey from Calais to St. Seurin de Palenne is 770 km via dual carriageways or motorways, with tolls (it costs about 75 euros in each direction - the quickest is to pay by credit card). The journey takes about 7 hours without stopping. We usually count 10 hours with three stops: one hour in the afternoon and two other small breaks plus one hour in case of traffic jams/incidents along the way. The port of Le Havre is about 660 km (5 hours and 15 minutes), Caen is about 520 km (4 hours and 45 minutes) and St. Malo is 440 km (4 hours and 15 minutes). By plane: The airports of Bordeaux and La Rochelle (seasonal opening only) are about one hour and 15 minutes with easy access by motorway or national road. There are also airports in Limoges (less than 2 hours), Poitiers (1 hour 30) and Bergerac (2 hours 30). By train: The TGV stops at Angoulême. The train station is about 50 minutes drive from St Seurin. The LGV from Paris stops at Bordeaux (journey time just over 2 hours) and there are the stations at Cognac and Saintes which are about 20 minutes from St Seurin de Palenne. There is also a small station at Pons, on the Bordeaux - La Rochelle line (line 17), but the service at Pons is limited to 7 - 10 trains per day.
Transport system :We are situated in the heart of the countryside. A car is essential. There is a train station in Pons, as well as in Saintes, Cognac and Jonzac. The TGV (high speed train) stops in Angoulême and Bordeaux. There are airports in Bordeaux & La Rochelle with hire car facilities.

Owner website

Vanessa, a French teacher and I, a surveyor / insurance loss adjuster, bought our beautiful home in France in 2013. I moved from the UK in 2014, when we started the renovations. Vanessa joined me in 2015. Our daughters had completed their studies and were independent so we decided it was "us time"! We have created a small, child friendly gîte complex and a language school, Papillon école de langue. Life is very busy but we are our own masters. We love it here, come an experience it for yourself.

Peaceful and calm

Tim and Vanessa are welcoming and friendly hosts. The gite is modern and all appliances and facilities are in excellent condition. We loved the pool and spent the late afternoon there every day! We visited the coast at Royan, about 45 mins drive - fabulous spot, and Saintes, about 20 mins drive away, is very pretty with plenty of restaurants. A lovely spot for a holiday away from the hurly-burly of life.

Fantastic clean and well-equipped gite close to plenty of attractions and the coast

We chose these beautiful gites for a family holiday after a lot of detailed research – and having just returned to the UK after two super weeks there, are very glad that we did! The properties are spotless, spacious, very well-equipped and well-located for exploring the beaches of the Charente coast and the cities of Bordeaux and La Rochelle, as well as local sightseeing around Pons, Saintes and Angoulême. Our children loved the pool (securely fenced and gated), trampoline, swings, slide, covered play area, boules court and games room and we could relax in the well-kept gardens while they had fun. Friendly hosts Tim and Vanessa were always on hand should we need anything (Vanessa also runs a French/English language school on site), but unobtrusively so, which made for a peaceful break where we could really unwind. A great holiday in a fabulous property in a lovely part of France - highly recommended!

Perfect Family Holiday

Over the years I have spent numerous happy holidays in France in many different gites, each with its own unique charm. Yet one gite stands out above all others. Les Gites du Vigneron are simply beautiful. To say they are a “home from home” is an understatement. The gites retain their original character but have been enhanced to create a modern feel. They are immaculate with everything you could possibly wish for to make a perfect holiday. If you can tear yourself away from the heated pool, there is plenty to do in the garden or games room, including table tennis , boules and trampolining. The gites are located in the lovely region of Charente Maritime. There are so many interesting places to visit that you are spoilt for choice. Vanessa and Tim are wonderful hosts. Thank you for our second special holiday - we shall definitely return soon!

Outstanding property

We (2 adults and 2 teenagers) have just returned from the most relaxing fortnight at the gîtes du vigneron. The gîtes are beautifully renovated, spotlessly clean and very comfortably furnished. Great consideration has been given to what people want during a holiday and the gîte was fully equipped with everything we could need. The showers were powerful, the beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for us all. The grounds are immaculate, yet you can still play football. The play barn is full of games and toys for all ages, including table tennis, darts and table football. The pool area is stunning, with a large, shaded area as well as plenty loungers around the pool. The pool was clean, warm and available from early in the morning til late at night every day. The property is around 15 mins drive from two large supermarkets in Pons. Saintes, Cognac and the coast are all within easy driving distance. The local boulangerie is a couple of minutes drive away. Tim and Vanessa are the perfect hosts. They are always available, yet never intrusive. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at the gîtes du vigneron and were very sad to leave. We cannot rate it highly enough - an outstanding property. Thank you Tim and Vanessa for a wonderful holiday.
