Jordan Cabin t.a.o.s.* - Nestled in a 2 acre secluded wooded setting with an acequia (irrigation stream so coveted in New Mexico - read Milagros Bean Field War) running between the cabin and the orchard of apple, cherry, plum and pear trees. Along the acequia are giant ancient cottonwood trees and a foot bridge to the other side for hiking, exploring and fruit picking. The large covered back veranda overlooks the acequia and the orchard. A dreamy setting for reading a good book, listening to the stream and watching local wild life carry on their days.
The historic cabin dates from circa 1850 in Weston Missouri just north of Kansas City on the Missouri River. The original huge and heavy log walls were disassembled, carefully marked and labeled and then transported to Taos, NM for reconstruction. The walls were then resurrected with precise detailed instructions and a modern kitchen and upstairs loft bedroom were added. The Jordan's, the current owners, recently added an upscale modern bathroom with sink, commode and handicap equipped custom shower.
The large living room fireplace stones were brought in from an abandoned bunkhouse in Union County, NM.
A private hot tub for night time star-gazing is artistically placed in a custom built terraced patio courtyard complete with hand carved stone seating and stone steps. For guest comfort, hot tub and patio comes equipped with gas heat-a-lator tower for chilly nights and patio table and chairs invite alfresca dining.
The icing on the cake: Owner and renowned and well loved Taos artist, Jerry Jordan and his lovely wife Marilyn, are in neighboring residence to insure all goes well for your stay. Ample separation and traditional adobe compound walls insure your privacy. Should you wish to meet or get acquainted with this fascinating couple you need only to hang out the welcome flag. However, strict privacy will be adhered to should you wish total seclusion and retreat within your compound adobe walls.
When asked what the t.a.o.s. means the answer was: Jerry puts the letters t.a.o.s. under his signature on every painting. People are always asking what it means. They know it spells Taos, but with the small letters and the periods, it baffles them. Thirty some years ago, Jerry had a lithograph print of a painting he had done of a house that is next door to the studio he now has. The title of the print was , "If You Knew This Place, You Would Call It Home". The painting also had the famous Taos hollyhocks in it. He was gifting a copy of the print to a long time friend for her 40th birthday. She was touched and said, "from now on Taos will mean to me - "Together Always Our Spirits". He asked her permission to use her t.a.o.s. and began including it in his signature on his paintings.
