Middle Coombe is a beautiful 16/17th century cob & thatch farmhouse, listed grade 2*, nestled in its own sheltered valley with extensive ancient outbuildings. Coombe is surrounded by 200 acres of organic farmland (where we raise our organic beef cattle) and 180 acres of mixed woodland (with wild red deer). An extensive public access footpath network runs throughout, with it's own surprises. The house (available for rent throughout the year) is full of atmosphere and character, much loved and with fine furniture and oak paneling. The sitting room is a beautiful wood-panelled space with a massive oak-framed window, comfy sofas and a roaring open fire. If you stay for Christmas we give you a lightly decorated tree from the forest then encourage you to go exploring down in the woods for your own additional decorations. In winter the log fire castes a flickering orange glow on the ancient oak panelling. Some people are reading whilst others talk around the large coffee table putting the world to rights.

Coombe farm has 8 bedrooms including several doubles with en-suite. The bedrooms are all lovingly decorated with many period features and antique furniture. Included amongst the bedrooms is a spacious annex with its own lounge, kitchen and bathroom. The farmhouse and annex sleeps 20 in total in a variety of ways. For example many of our beds can be set up as either singles or kingsize. All our twin beds can be converted into very comfortable kingsize beds by way of zip lock mattresses. To make your stay more comfortable please tell us how you want the beds set up. There are also several rooms with two or more beds that can act as either dormitory rooms for groups of children or family rooms for parents and children to sleep together. The kitchen is a large but cosy space seating 16 with aga and modern electric over and hob. The massive ancient oak window has recently been beautifully renovated affording a cosy spot to sit and read. One wall is panelled where we encourage children and adults to blue-tack their visual offerings. For 100s of years pots and pans have sizzled on the Aga while merry laughter and voices fill the air. Corks pulled from bottles and piping food served at the great table for many festive occasions. Many groups squeeze another few people in at the corners of the table to bring the seating up to 20!

Policies

Babies younger then 2 years at the time of your holiday are free. Animals are £10 per pet. We can accommodate 16 guests in the farmhouse and from 2-6 guests in the Annex all self catering. There is a cautionary damages deposit which we take for every booking. We hold the deposit for 1 week after your stay.
