Maquey is a small condos complex of around 20 units, located on the beach at Perla Marina. It has a pool and beautiful gardens, and is an area full of large, mature trees. (Directly next door to the Natura Cabana Eco Resort). The condos fron the beach - from this condo you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves, you are 1 minute's walk from a sandy beach.
The Perla Marina neighbourhood is mid-way between Sosua and Cabarete ( about 5 miles/8 km each) and Maquey is 1 km from the main road. Unless you are familiar with, and comfortable using local transport (publicos and guaguas) you will need a car or motorbike.
Within Perla Marina there are three eating establishments: Natura Cabana has an evening restaurant for fine dining, and a daytime beachside snack bar, with the emphasis on organic and healthy food, and there is a much-loved pizzeria by the gate to the main road (Ceiba Cafe) very popular with residents. There is a small grocery store next to this, and a large grocery store across the main road. For a supermarket you can to go to either Cabarete or Sosua.
The condo is on the ground floor, with marble tiles, partial coraline wall cladding, local mahogany (caoba) doors and trim. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom, living room and on the large terrace, but the apartment is never exposed to the sun, so remains cool. There is an a/c unit in the bedroom.
Perla Marina is generally regarded as a safe neighbouhood, partly because there is a visible security presence at the gate and along the main road, while Maquey has a daytime gatekeeper and at night three security guards in the complex (back gate, front gate and beach). The condo has a security alarm that covers all entrances. There is a wall safe for valuables.
This property has no glass in the windows (the whole condominium), so noise travels. Therefore it is not suitable for babies, small children (under 8), heavy smokers - no smoking in apartment or on the terrace, smoking is permitted around pool and in car-park. No pets are allowed. 2 guests in KS bed, one or two older children on a sofa bed.
