ABOUT VACATION RENTALS IN HILO

The southernmost city in the United States, Hilo is located on the eastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Hilo is the largest community on the Hawaii island, overlooking the Hilo Bay. The Mauna Loa and the Mauna Kea are an active and a dormant shield volcano located near Hilo.  Don't forget to check out our Hilo Vacation Rentals!

The Kona or Hilo International Airports could kick start your dream vacation. Hilo serves the eastern side (windward), and Kona the western coast (leeward) portion. An intricate and well maintained highway system makes Hawaii well connected. At Hilo, you get a glimpse of real day-to day Hawaiian life where families earn for their living and call home. You have plenty of serene beaches in and around Hilo, where families can have a more private time.

The Onekahakaha Beach County Park has gentle tidal pools that make for great swimming holes, and have white sand all around. Sea urchins also seem to love the swimming holes! The winter months attract surfers to the James Keoloha Beach County Park, known locally as "Four Mile Beach." Mother Nature and culture welcome you to the Lili'uokalani Gardens. Located at the west end of picturesque Banyan Drive, the gardens offer an excellent view of Hilo Bay. These relatively unexplored gardens could make you think you were in Japan, except for the coconut trees here.

Head south to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Travel down the Chain of Craters Road, where you can look for flowing lava. You need to enquire of the safety of hiking the trails before exploring the Thurston Lava Tube, the fern forests, and the other natural phenomena of the area. Don't discount shopping from the overall Hilo experience. For vacationers Big Island is not the sole attraction Hawaii has to offer - there are more islands - Kauai, Lanai, Maui, etc.
